EDITORS’ PREFACE

Some stories from today’s Gulf Times, one of the English-language newspapers here in Qatar:

—From Doha, “A man stands accused of gunning down two colleagues he believed were framing him for getting a housemaid pregnant.”

—Also from Doha, “The Central Municipal Council (CMC) yesterday decided to set up a committee to deal with the contentious issue of accommodation of single-status expatriate workers in Doha’s residential areas.”

—But from London, “Aliens from outer space have been visiting Britain for years and UFO sightings doubled after the film Close Encounters was released in 1977, according to secret files collating reports by members of the public.”

—And from Washington, “Presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain remains a strong candidate despite a gloomy national mood and record low ratings for President George W Bush.”

The world can be kind of a nonsensical place, no matter where you live, huh?  So here.  Have some poetry.  Make some sense of the world.
