EDITORS’ PREFACE

I borrow from Emilia Phillips to preface issue 5.3 of diode:“Poetry, like the moon, causes all things to weigh differently than they do in terrestrial experience. We breathe a different air there. When we walk, we don’t merely take steps. We leap.”* The poems in this issue leap, indeed—they take leaps of daring, linguistic leaps, leaps of imagination and associations—and ultimately, they leap from screen to reader. Diode itself, though, has taken a more literal leap. We have plunged into book publishing, and we hope you’ll join us. First, throw yourself into the wonderful work offered here, and then, if you’ll please, click on the Diode Editions link on our Table of Contents page to see what’s ahead.
